Rodmell

This site is dedicated to the work being conducted at Rodmell Primary School on the creatures that are found in the Railway Land Local Nature Reserve Heart of Reeds site and how they got there. It will provide users with up-to-date information on the school’s progress put together by the pupils and teachers within a research framework.

After an initial visit to the Heart of Reeds land sculpture on the Lewes Railway Land Local Nature Reserve on 5 October 2005, the pupils began to ask questions about the creatures they had found.

• When it’s cold and hot do different animals go in and come out?


• How do frogs, water spiders, saucers bugs, water mites, rat tailed maggots and water beetles get into Heart of Reeds?


• If the water gets too hot and the animals get really hot, would the animals die?


• How do fish breathe underwater generally?

Pupils will begin to work through these questions and others, and the hypotheses they generate over the next two months, will be mapped out using the Knowledge Forum software. The pupils will work alongside their class teacher Mrs Winterton with input from entomologist, Peter Hodge.
